How to use BEMPU ApneBoot
Introduction:
ApneBoot uses pulse oximetry to detect when a newborn has stopped breathing upon which it’s unique foot probe stimulates the sole to help restart breathing immediately. Please watch this 1 minute video for an overview of ApneBoot.
How to install:
- Connect the power chord, pulse oximeter probe, and stimulator probe.
- Be careful when removing the stimulator probe - you MUST unclick it from the base, do not force pull or it will break.
How to select settings:
- ApneBoot is shipped to you in PRESET MODE and LOW stimulation intensity. For most babies, this is sufficient and you do not need to change the settings.
- In preset mode, the system will stimulate under these conditions:
- SPO2 < 75% for 5 seconds
- Or if, HR < 90 for 5 seconds
- Or if, Both SPO2 <85% and HR <100 for 5 seconds.
- If you would like to adjust the alarm thresholds or stimulation intensity, you can do so in the settings.
How To Connect to the Newborn
- Put the pulse ox probe on the baby. We suggest you change the location of the pulse oximeter every 4-6 hours.
- Tie the boot to the baby’s foot carefully by watching these instructions. Note, the boot MUST be tied as per the video else it will not make good contact and will not be effective to stimulate the baby.

- ApneBoot uses the latest pulse ox technology and unlike other systems, it does not average the readings over a long period of time. As a result you may notice a slight difference in O2 readings due to ApneBoot quickly picking up changes in O2.
